LOVE. RESCUE. REPEAT.

Make Severe Animal Neglect a Felony — BEFORE They Die
Ida should never have had to suffer to this point.
When Ida was rescued, she was so starved and weak that she couldn’t stand for 9 days.
She spent 14 days hospitalized, fighting for her life.
She came from a home where she was denied the most basic needs: food, care, and compassion.
And yet, despite the severity of her condition — despite being on the verge of death — her previous owner is facing only a misdemeanor.
This is not justice.
This is not protection.
This is not acceptable.
📢 We are calling for Ida’s Law.
Ida’s Law would make it a felony to starve, abuse, or neglect an animal to the point of critical condition — even if the animal survives.
Right now, in many states, an animal must die before the law considers it “serious enough” for a felony charge.
This means that an animal like Ida — skeletal, hospitalized, unable to stand — is not legally recognized as a victim of a felony-level crime.
That must change.
🐶 Why Ida’s Law Matters
Animals should not have to lose their lives to receive protection under the law.
Ida’s Law would:
Classify severe neglect leading to hospitalization, organ failure, starvation, or inability to walk as a felony-level offense
Allow law enforcement to act earlier — before an animal dies
Hold abusers fully accountable for extreme neglect
Deter future offenders with meaningful penalties
Protect the most vulnerable animals who cannot speak for themselves
❤️ Ida’s Story Is Not Rare
As a rescue, we see dogs and cats arrive:
Skin stretched over bone
Unable to walk
Organ damage from starvation
Covered in untreated infections
Shaking from exhaustion
Too weak to lift their heads
And yet, in many cases, their abusers walk away with a slap on the wrist.
Ida survived — but barely.
She is now safe, warm, and healing, wrapped in blankets that once would have felt like a dream.
She deserved safety long before she reached this point.
Every animal does.
📣 We, the community, demand this change.
We call on lawmakers, prosecutors, and state leadership to support Ida’s Law and strengthen animal cruelty statutes so extreme neglect is taken seriously before it becomes fatal.
Animals should not have to die to be heard.
Justice should not depend on a heartbeat stopping.
